Empower Us is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Heather Blickenstaff in 2021 to provide public and community education on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). We emphasize defining emotional abuse and how this differs from appropriate parenting and discipline, providing parents with techniques that improve the mental health and well-being of their children. Our hope is that by providing information about childhood toxic stress and the protective factors that can buffer against its lifelong consequences, we can help empower those in our communities to prevent ACEs and their effects. Our organization's community outreach is based in west Michigan, led by resident physicians in the field of pediatrics. We provide public education via online platforms and social media.
